Reliable power distribution is essential for factories, commercial facilities, infrastructure projects and utility substations. When selecting 11kV medium voltage switchgear for Vietnam industrial projects, buyers should evaluate the electrical ratings, internal construction, protection system, operating environment and supplier support—not only the purchase price.
This guide explains the main points project owners, electrical contractors and procurement teams should check before ordering an indoor medium-voltage switchgear system.
Why KYN28-12 Is a Practical Choice for Industrial Distribution
KYN28-12 is an indoor metal-clad withdrawable switchgear platform designed for three-phase AC medium-voltage power systems. It is commonly used for receiving and distributing electrical energy in factories, substations, power plants, data centres and large commercial buildings.
The withdrawable vacuum circuit breaker design allows inspection and maintenance without replacing the complete panel. Separate compartments for the busbar, circuit breaker, cable connection and low-voltage control equipment help improve operating safety and maintenance efficiency.

1. Confirm the System Voltage and Insulation Level
The first step is to confirm the rated system voltage, highest operating voltage, frequency and required insulation level. For an 11kV distribution network, a 12kV-class switchgear panel is normally selected, but the final configuration must follow the project’s single-line diagram, utility requirements and local engineering standards.
Important values include:
- Rated voltage and operating frequency
- Power-frequency withstand voltage
- Lightning impulse withstand voltage
- Required creepage distance
- Site altitude, humidity and ambient temperature
2. Select the Correct Rated Current
The rated current should be based on the actual load, future expansion margin and temperature-rise requirements. Typical feeder and incomer configurations may use 630A, 1250A, 1600A or higher current ratings depending on the project.
Do not select the busbar current only from the present load. Consider transformer capacity, parallel operation, motor-starting conditions and planned equipment expansion. A properly sized system reduces overheating risk and avoids unnecessary oversizing.
3. Check Short-Circuit Withstand Capacity
The switchgear must safely withstand and interrupt the maximum prospective short-circuit current at the installation point. Procurement documents should clearly state the rated short-circuit breaking current, peak withstand current and short-time withstand duration.
These values must be coordinated with the transformer impedance, upstream protection and the project’s short-circuit calculation. Enertro can configure the panel and vacuum circuit breaker after reviewing the single-line diagram and technical schedule.
4. Choose the Required Panel Configuration
A complete medium-voltage switchboard usually contains several functional panels. The final lineup may include:
- Incoming feeder panel
- Outgoing feeder panel
- Bus coupler and bus riser panel
- Metering panel
- Potential transformer panel
- Transformer or motor protection panel
For accurate quotation, provide the quantity and function of each panel together with the single-line diagram. This prevents missing instruments, interlocks, current transformers, voltage transformers or control accessories.
5. Define Protection, Metering and Communication
Protection relays and measuring instruments should match the application. Typical functions include overcurrent protection, earth-fault protection, under-voltage or over-voltage protection, transformer protection and motor protection.
If the switchgear will connect to a building management or SCADA system, specify the communication protocol, digital inputs and outputs, metering data and remote-control requirements before production. This avoids costly field modifications.
6. Pay Attention to Safety Interlocking
Mechanical and electrical interlocks are critical for safe operation. A properly designed withdrawable switchgear panel should help prevent incorrect circuit-breaker movement, operation under unsafe conditions and access to live compartments.
Buyers should also confirm the earthing switch arrangement, door interlocks, position indicators, shutters and padlocking requirements. Operating procedures and training should be included in the project handover.
7. Provide the Installation Environment
Vietnam projects may involve high ambient temperature, humidity, coastal air or industrial pollution. Tell the manufacturer where the equipment will be installed and whether the switchgear room is air-conditioned.
Depending on the environment, the project may require anti-condensation heaters, thermostats, additional insulation treatment, corrosion-resistant components or special enclosure protection. Site conditions should be confirmed before the design is approved.
