What an SF6 load break switch is designed to do
An SF6 load break switch (LBS) provides reliable load-current switching and isolation in medium-voltage distribution equipment. It is frequently used in RMU and compact switchgear configurations, where a compact, gas-insulated solution is needed.
Selection points for project buyers
- System voltage: confirm whether the application is 12kV, 24kV or 40.5kV.
- Rated current: align the switch rating with the feeder requirement, commonly up to 630A depending on configuration.
- Protection arrangement: determine whether a fuse combination or another protection scheme is required for transformer feeders.
- Earthing switch: confirm the required interlocking and earthing function for safe cable-side operation.
- Operating mechanism: specify manual operation, motorization, auxiliary contacts or remote indication when needed.
Load switching is different from fault interruption
A load break switch is selected for its intended switching duty. The protection configuration must be coordinated with the system requirements rather than assumed from the product name alone. Provide the single-line diagram and protection requirement so the right combination can be recommended.
